CURACAO - THE BEST KEPT SECRET OF THE CARIBBEAN

Home to more than 35 captivating beaches, a diverse heritage spanning 55 different cultures, 'live and let live' attitude and unrivaled European architecture; Curaçao remains one of the most exceptional islands of the region. Its capital city, Willemstad - a UNESCO World Heritage site - with its iconic colorful Handelskade backdrop and roster of museums, monuments, flavorful restaurants and shopping, was selected in 2013 as one of the Top 5 Cities in the Caribbean.  Curaçao's natural beauty, pristine diving and snorkeling sites are a favorite with divers and adventure seekers, and its beaches and idyllic weather, situated outside of the Hurricane Belt, has won it further accolade and recognition.

The possibilities on Curacao are endless. The island offers a wide variety of things to do and places to visit, especially when you can enjoy a year-round temperature of 30 degrees Celsius. To our knowledge there is no other place in the Caribbean where you can find such a diverse selection of cultural sites, beaches and coves, arid landscapes, astounding world under water, combined with fine dining, excellent shopping, a pulsating nightlife and a savvy local population that speaks four languages, Dutch, English, Spanish & our Local language Papiamento.

SOAK UP THE SUN OVER 35 STUNNING BEACHES

Almost all Curacao beaches are scattered along the sheltered and calm southwestern coast, where the waters are calm and crystal clear. Most of the the beaches are open to the public and never overcrowded. There is always sufficient of parking space around. Every beach has his own charm and different activity can be found at every beach.

The beaches near Willemstad are Mambo Beach and Jan Thiel Beach. Mambo beach is known for its restaurants, shopping on the boulevard, the seaquarium (swimming with dolphins) and the vibrant nightlife. Jan Thiel is close to Spaanse Water and hosts great restaurants and beachclubs, a shopping centre, casino, all guaranteed for an enjoyable day and night at the Beach. Further there is Avila beach near Willemstad and St Barbara beach at Spaanse Water.

Towards the west side of the Island you will find the most 'secluded' beaches, such as Cas Abao, Porto Mari, Kenepa Grandi, Fortie, Kalki, Santa Cruz (the Blue room), Lagun, Piskado and more.

And finally there is also the fantastic day trip to 'Klein Curacao'. Surrounded by spectacular coral reefs, Klein Curacao is a sunlit pearl in the Caribbean Sea, just off the coast of Curacao. This uninhabited island is approximately an 1,5-hour boat trip away from Curacao and has an intriguing history, mystery and beauty on only 1.7 square kilometers! Explorers, sun lovers, snorkelers and divers, kitesurfers will all really enjoy a trip to diverse Klein Curacao!

KITESURF & WINDSURF @ CURACAO

The main kitesurf location is located at St Jorisbaai, a sheltered bay to the sea in the North East of the Island, just 5 minutes away from our bungalow.  The site is suitable for beginners and advanced kiters, the water is shallow close to the shore. The North East trade wind blows steady, there is a safe launch and landing area. There are 2 kite schools providing lesson's at St Joris Baai. Another good kitesurf location is at Klein Curacao, only for experienced kiters (offshore wind), and lesson's are provided at the Mangroves on Spaanse Water.

Spaanse Water also hosts the windsurfing club, and they also provide Stand Up Paddle Tours and other activities.

We do kitesurfing, windsurfing, Stand Up Paddle and snorkling around the island and we can advise you on the best locations and other tips & tricks.
